Holiday with the kids- how to make the travel fun

When going on holiday the worse part for most people is the getting there part, and for children this is no exception! Young children struggle with the concept of how far away they are travelling and how long it will take to get there so you can expect the “are we nearly there yet?” performance to start about 5 minutes after setting off from home. There are ways to make the journey easier for everyone though and here are some ideas on keep both you and the kids sane.

Having plenty of snacks for the children to eat is always a winner and the more time the snack takes to eat the better so things such as cooked corn on the cob or a whole apple can be good but just remember to avoid anything too messy such as things that are likely to melt or be sticky like chocolate or cake bars.

Play games with the children along the way like how many red cars can you count or i-spy. For older children you could play more complicated games like memory games where they need to concentrate and remember a shopping list or a story to re tell. Keeping them distracted will help to pass the time and keep them interested too.
