Essential first aid kit for a safe family holiday

When planning a trip with the family it’s important to be prepared for all eventualities and with young children this is even more important. One of the ways you can do this is packing a first aid kit full of the items you’ll be most likely to need while away.

As with all first aid kits you are likely to need plasters, scissors, antiseptic wipes and mild pain killers such as Paracetamol however when travelling abroad there are a few other things that are always handy to have.

Aloe Vera after sun cream will always be welcome, if despite your best efforts, your children catch the sun, which is especially soothing if kept in the fridge.

Antihistamines are also essential to treat any allergies, skin rashes or insect bites and should be used according to the directions on the medication.

Diarrhoea relief tablets or sachets are extremely useful if you have diarrhoea whilst travelling as they keep you hydrated which is vital if you are in a hot climate where children can very quickly become dehydrated and as a result get constipation. A mild herbal laxative should also be packed as hot weather and unusual foods can easily cause constipation.

With these few essentials in your kit you should be ready for a safe fun family holiday.

Hiking holidays in France

If you have never experienced a hiking holiday in France, then now is the time. Hiking holidays can be as challenging as you want them to be, which is part of the beauty of them. If you are not an experience hiker, you can plan a shorter route where the ground is more even, but on the other hand if you want something that is really going to push you then France has some of the best hiking trails in the world.

You need to ensure that you have the correct equipment for any hike, the correct footwear is of upmost important. Do not attempt to do any hike without having special footwear, as often the terrain can be quite harsh and the risk of slipping or damaging your ankle is quite high.

Hiking can be fun for all the family, but be aware that small children will tire quickly and you need to ensure that you have planned adequate stops.

Choosing the right accommodation for a family holiday

Family holidays can be a lot of fun and a great way for the family to bond and become closer. When you are booking a family holiday whether it be in the UK or abroad you should carefully consider the type of accommodation that you chose. Depending on the age of your children you may require certain extras in your room, for example, a travel cot, microwave or highchair. Not all hotels and B and B’s provide these as standard so make sure that you check in advance.

If you are looking to go camping, then you wil need to consider the temperature in the evening and possibly pack extra bedding than they would have at home. Camping is great fun but does tend to make the normal day to day tasks a little more difficult.

If you are going abroad make sure you check what the situation is regarding drinking the tap water, as especially young children, can become quite ill from drinking water abroad.

Caravan Vs tent. Which is the best accomodation?

So you are looking at going on a camping holiday in the UK. What type of accommodation do you go for – would it be a caravan or a tent?

Many people would instantly say they would rather stay in a caravan but there is something quite special about staying in a tent and being that bit closer to nature. Many people that holiday in tents say that it brings them closer as a family and they learn to enjoy the simple things in life.

Tents do not have to be basic, many tents have good cooking facilities along with fridges/ freezers and bathrooms. Which the recent addition of glamping you could actually stay in a tent that is far more luxury than most caravans whilst still enjoying all nature has to offer. Why not try it if you haven’t already, I believe it is something everyone should try at least once in their life time.

School Summer Holiday Prices

With prices soaring in the school summer holiday you can see why many parents are choosing to take their children out of school in term time to go away. Although there is a fine to do this, many parents have said that it is more than worth paying that compared to what you save.

The government are in discussions about breaking the 6 week summer holiday up more evenly over the year which may see the prices drop slightly as people chose to go away different times of the year.

If you do have to stick to school summer holiday dates then I would suggest either book well in advance or pick up a very late deal as this is often when the most money is saved. Just remember if you are booking a late deal, to check that your passports are all valid and you have insurance set in place if you are going abroad.
