Winter family holidays

With the dark nights and cold weather setting in many people are thinking about their next summer holiday. The summer may seem such a long time away and waiting until then for your holiday can leave you feeling a little deflated. Have you ever considered a winter holiday? A holiday does not just have to be about sunbathing and lazing by a pool, there are plenty of different types of holidays that can be just as enjoyable.

If you are planning on staying in the UK for your winter holiday then you can expect a certain amount of rain, cold weather and possibly windy conditions. It is important to pack the right clothing to allow you to enjoy your holiday. You should take lots of layers to allow you to add depending on what the temperature is like. You should also take plenty of footwear if you are thinking about going for walks or splashing in the sea in your Wellies as they will take a long time to dry out.

You can often pick up a winter break in the UK for a fraction of the cost it would be in the summer, so why not use it as an opportunity to check out some new places that you may want to revisit during the summer month.

A Butlins break for all the family

The first Butlins resort was opened in 1936 in Skegness. Over the years other Butlins resorts have been opened in Minehead and Bognor Regis. Butlins still proves to be a very popular holiday destination for families all over the UK and other parts of the world.

You can choose to stay onsite in a room, apartment, bungalow or chalet or even rent a caravan from one of the private owners. The caravan park is located onsite meaning you also get your entertainment passes included in the booking.

Butlins provides a free funfair, swimming pool as well as many activities to do during the day. They also have a host of entertainment on in the day and the evening from pantomimes to tribute acts and magicians. Over the last few years they have been able to secure bookings with some popular celebrities such as Stephen Mullhern and dance group Diversity.

If you are looking for an easy holiday to go on with your children, then Butlins may be the perfect break for you.  You can choose to go self catering or choose from one of their dinning packages so you don’t even have to think about cooking.

Finding cheap caravan holidays

Family holidays are an important time when everyone can put aside work and school for a while and spend some much needed quality time together.

If you want to go on holiday but are struggling with the constant rising prices and those of the major holiday companies such as Haven or Butlins, then you may think that you cannot afford to go at all, but this is often not the case.

I recently wanted to book a week’s holiday in July for my partner and I and our two children. I was amazed to find that for a week in Cornwall (during term time) was going to cost between £600 and £1000 pounds. I knew that we would be able to go abroad for a similar sort of price but was keen on staying in the UK. After a bit of research on independent sites, I found a caravan holiday in Wales for the same week for less than £200! Although this was not our first choice of location, I decided that with the money we would save on the actually accommodation, it would mean that we could do a lot more activities when on holiday.

Out of season family holidays

If you are planning on going on holiday and have children you may be surprised actually how much more you have to pay to go in the school holidays. Prices can literally jump up to well over an additional £1000 for a family of four compared to prices in term time.

For this reason, many parents are choosing to risk being fined and taking their child out of school during term time to save money. Even if they do get fined often the fine is a lot less than the additional amount the holiday would be.

It is not ideal to take your children out of school for a holiday but if you feel that you want to you should check what is going on at school during that period that they may miss. If for example, they have exams or a school trip then you may decide to delay the trip until this has been done.

There are some beautiful countries that offer a fantastic family holiday all year round. If you are not too bothered about the weather then the world is your oyster. If you want to go somewhere that is hot during the UK winter months then you may need to opt for somewhere in the Caribbean.

Camping without the luxuries

When you hear the word camping, luxury is probably not the first thing that comes to mind. Camping is often about getting back to basics and spending time with loved ones without the interference of day to day life and modern technology. This being said more and more people are turning camping in to glamping by finding ways in which they can still watch their favour programs, dry and straighten their hair and heat the tent to a nice temperature.
If you really want to get back to how camping should e then you need to opt for a more basic sites that has only basic facilities and if you can manage, without electric hook up. Without electric you will need to plan a head a little more and think about what sort of meals you can cook on an open fire, BBQ or gas stove.
To stay warm you will need to take lots of layers of clothing and blankets and pack water bottle that can be filled up with hot water to add some heat through the night.
There are ways in which you can enjoy both glamping and basic camping, but with basic camping you may have to be prepared to change the way you would normally do things and enjoy the finer things in life.
